Riverlea’s accommodation for guests has been purpose-built to ensure privacy, space and comfort. Each of our three double bedrooms has an ensuite bathroom, a queen-size bed, antique furniture and luxurious furnishings. Guests have the exclusive use of lounge and dining rooms, which are kept cosily warm in winter by a combustion stove. Your privacy and space are important – which is why our quarters adjoin but are quite separate from your accommodation. Outside, there’s a north-facing courtyard with magnificent views, acres of country to explore, and a private and very beautiful section of the Cudgegong River in which to swim, fish and wander. Food, glorious food. Served in the dining room or courtyard, our breakfasts feature fresh fruit and juices, cereals and muesli, bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms and grilled tomato, toast, muffins and American-style pancakes. Freshly-brewed coffee and tea is available when you want it throughout the day. Dinner is available by arrangement; as are barbeques and picnics by the river - or how about one of our antipasto plates or a supper cooked in our wood-fired oven as you marvel at the brilliance of the stars. The best of accommodation-Mudgee The great outdoors. Apple Tree Flat – Riverlea Retreat’s location - is famous for its spectacular hill scenery, and peaceful, unspoilt rural charm. Visitors have likened the area to Tuscany, and to parts of Scotland’s Highlands. In any event, Riverlea’s 16 tranquil acres are the perfect setting for some rest and relaxation. Take a gentle stroll, check out the olive grove, feed the horses, pat the tractor, watch out for the wildlife (wombats, kangaroos, platypus and goannas). Or perhaps you’d like to drop a line in our river or take a dip in one of its swimming holes. Then again, why not just relax, put your feet up, admire the birdlife, and watch the setting sun paint the hills gold, then crimson. Later, you’ll be amazed how bright the moon and stars are in this huge black sky. In the morning, it’s spellbinding to watch the sun burn the mist from the hills as you breakfast in the courtyard. A four-season climate. Summers are warm to hot, but almost never humid like Sydney. The night time temperature in November to March usually drops by at least 10 degrees to make sleeping easy. Winter nights can be very cold and the mornings are often frosty, but Riverlea’s wood fires will keep you warm and cosy. Winter days feature blue skies and warm sun. Spring and autumn are months of pure magic! What’s the bad news? Sorry, but we don’t have facilities for children under 15, nor for pets. FRAGRANT FARM COTTAGES
Fragrant Farm Cottage is a self contained two bedroom cottage, very spacious and comfortable, with verandas on three sides with extensive views. We are located just 10 minutes pretty drive from Mudgee on the Hill End Road. There are two bedrooms with a queen size bed in one bedroom, and a queen size bed and two twin beds in the second bedroom. There is also a sofa bed in the living room. All bedding, including doonas and electric blankets, and towels are supplied. There is even a washing machine! We do not supply breakfast provisions, but tea and coffee, sugar and milk are provided. The Cottage is very comfortable and warm in the winter months with a slow combustion stove and wood is supplied. There is air conditioning, and overhead fans for the summer months. Both John and Sue Snape have lived in country NSW all their lives, and now enjoy living at Bleak House in the tranquil Mudgee Valley. Bleak House and it's refurbishment reflects on their efforts, very much a team effort. The garden's hundred's of roses provide plenty of work for both Sue and John, who luckily enjoy nurturing the grounds around Bleak House. Whilst Bleak House has retained it's period decor and architecture, we do have the creature comforts to make your stay pleasent. Our pool and deck area are popular in the warmer months and guests are free to receive breakfast at the poolside. We often find our visitors relaxing around the deck and gardens at the end of the day, enjoying some local wine and cheeses. Universally popular with our guests are the full length verandahs off the rooms on the front and back of the building. With views over the Cudgegong River and adjacent farmlands, it is a great place to sit a while, and catch up on a good book or maybe just a nap before dinner. One of the pleasant aspects of Bleak House's location is it's proximity to many great resturants wine bars and cafes. Some of the local winery resturants offer a pick up and return service for their diners. Of course when the crisp winter evenings surround Bleak House, there is a migration to the warm and comfortable lounge on the ground floor. With large sofas, toasty fire place and a drop of port or sherry at hand, its no surprise that guests returning from dinner are drawn in for a nightcap and congenial conversation before turning in.
