Goat Meat in Malaysia

Malaysia has plans to develop the country as a major centre for south-east Asian Halal goat slaughtering. Australia exported 42,759 live goats to Asia in 2006. Australian goat meat producers are well positioned to benefit form this given the close geographical location and the fact that Malaysia, in spite of a goat industry expansion plan, can not meet the ever increasing demand.

In February 2007 Australian export showed an increase of 3pc over 2006 at 1464 tonnes. Goat meat shipments to the United States and Taiwan increased nearly 50% and then US still remains the largest Australian goat meat market, taking around 50% of all exports.
