About LekkerBokkie Boer-Goats Stud and Marlyn Homestead?
Marlyn is a beautiful and tranquil farm located in the picturesque and scenic Capertee Valley. The Capertee Valley is surrounded by the most spectacular sandstone rock formations and escarpments. Capertee is at the heart of the Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains in what is best known as "Explorer Country". Once a part of a much larger and very historic farm, famous for high quality superfine wool and merino sheep, Marlyn now offers economical, simple and comfortable farmstay accommodation for bird watchers, hikers, campers, horse riders, trail bikers, RV’s, 4WD’s, stargazers, artists, photographers and anyone who looks for peace, quiet or a farmstay vacation.
Stay in our original timber slab settler’s cottage bedrooms that were built around the turn of the century. For International travellers, I have lived and worked long term in Texas, South Africa, UK, Europe, Brazil, South Korea and several other countries, and have enjoyed many years of wonderful hospitality. Now it’s payback time, so let me show you some great Australian hospitality.
The Capertee Valley is renowned as the top bird watching location in Australia, with bird watchers coming from around the world to seek out and view many rare and endangered species. We are surrounded and enriched by a diverse wildlife that includes kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, echidna, wild birds (around 200 species) as well as our own African boer-goats and Alpacas. The only thing you can hear is your own breathing and the birds!
About LekkerBokkie Boer-Goats Stud
Marlyn is also home to our LekkerBokkie Stud where we raise export quality meat boer-goats using the South African Boer and the Kalahari Red goat breeds. About our name – In Afrikaans Lekker means nice, good, great, cool and tasty. Bokkie means little buck or small goat (and also an Afrikaans term of endearment for young and pretty girl or girlfriend). On an Afrikaans theme (having spent much time in South Africa) we can carry our Bokkies in our bakky (pickup truck) and go make biltong (dried meat or jerky) or boerewors (a delicious farmstyle, farmers sausage or "wors") to cook on the braai (BBQ in USA or Barbie in Australia).
The humble goat gets a lot of unfair press, yet people use goat related words every single day of their lives, this ranges from your own family of kid and kids, you’ve got to be kidding, just kidding (anyone knows how real goat kids are when kids), or handling someone with kid gloves (gloves made of soft kid skin), The road is like a goat track (there is a reason for this as they do take the easiest route, however winding that my be); there is calling someone an old goat (seems like a compliment to me), and then there is scapegoat (unlucky if you falsely get the blame), and then one can separate the sheep from the goats (lucky for the goats I say), and then you can get someone’s goat (make them angry) and then there is a goatee beard (just like a real goat), and so the list of goat references goes on. Goats are in fact very intelligent, and unlike common belief they don’t or wont eat everything (rather picky really).
Coffee is a goat thing! In fact you might not realize this, but coffee was found by a goat! Yes! a goat ate the unknown berries and when an Ethiopian goat herder noticed the goat’s caffeine enriched hyperactive behavior and investigated, and so coffee came into our lives.
Here at LekkerBokkie Goats we have several hundred lovely and very likeable goats, and we know you will like them too. This site will develop and carry a large range of goat related articles and goat information for those that raise and breed them to those who have goats as pets. Soon aslo we will be back to making goats cheese, and we will carry loads of useful goats cheese making information.
