Why are mature bucks bringing top dollar at the sale barns?

I have noticed the past year that mature bucks
have been bringing .90 to 1.10 $ per pound,
in 09' you were lucky to get .40 to .50 $ per
pound. My question is are the bucks going for
slaughter?
