US hiker killed in goat attack

A man in the US has been gored and killed in a rare attack by a mountain goat. The man was hiking with his wife and a friend in Olympic National Park in the western US state of Washington on Saturday when he was attacked by the male goat, which witnesses said had been behaving aggressively. The experienced hiker, was gored in the thigh while trying to shoo the goat away. A newspaper reported that a park ranger who was not on duty but who happened to be close by and shook a safety blanket at the goat, and threw rocks at the animal with rocks to keep it away until help arrived. A coast guard helicopter airlifted the injured man to the hospital and efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Park rangers eventually were able to shoot and kill the goat. It is also reported there are around 300 mountain goats in Olympic National Park
